The production version of the 2012 Honda Civic has been unveiled, looking very similar to the Civic concepts that were on display at the Detroit Auto Show. Now in its ninth-generation, the new Civic promises to be even more fuel efficient than before, while retaining the unique style and reliability that car buyers have come to expect from the Civic.
For 2012, the Civic will get a new base model called the HF. The Civic HF will be the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup. It will feature a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine and should earn a competitive 41 miles per gallon on the freeway.
The Civic Hybrid will also continue to be offered for those seeking high-mileage. But for 2012, the Hybrid will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine. Despite its larger engine, it’s still expected to get a combined 45 mpg.
Lastly, the natural gas powered Civic GX will also be offered, but this time it will be offered in all 50 states. Honda says the new model will achieve better fuel-economy than its predecessor.
Other Civic models include the standard Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe, and the performance-tuned Civic Si. All models are expected to get a boost in fuel economy, and all models will feature Honda ECO Assist technology, which teaches drivers how to drive more efficiently.
