2027 Honda Pilot: Trims, MPG and Pricing for New York City Families
Published September 10, 2026 · Last updated September 10, 2026
Most three-row shoppers in the five boroughs are solving the same equation: enough seats for the whole household, enough traction for January, and a body short enough that the monthly garage bill does not jump a tier. The Pilot has been the Honda answer to that equation since the 2023 redesign, and the 2027 truck looks set to carry it forward without drama.
A note on 2027 figures. Honda's 2027 Pilot order guide is not public yet. Everything priced or rated below is the confirmed 2026 specification, which is what carries over unless Honda says otherwise. This page gets rewritten the week official numbers appear.
What's changing on the 2027 Honda Pilot?
Very little, and that is the useful answer rather than a hedge. Honda rebuilt this truck from the platform up for 2023 — longer wheelbase, upright body, a TrailSport with actual hardware instead of decals — and manufacturers do not touch that work three years in. The V6, the ten-speed and the six-trim ladder should all read the same on a 2027 window sticker.
Where change is plausible: equipment migrating between EX-L and Touring, a paint code added or dropped, and the usual quiet reshuffling of packages. Reporting around the segment puts the mid-cycle update nearer 2028 than 2027. None of that is confirmed, and Honda has said nothing about giving the Pilot a hybrid.
When is the 2027 Honda Pilot release date?
Nothing is on the calendar publicly. Based on how the last three model years reached this market, first deliveries should land between late 2026 and early 2027, and allocation arrives in waves rather than all at once.
The pattern is consistent enough to plan around. Sport and EX-L show up first and in volume, because that is where most of the demand sits. Touring follows. TrailSport, Elite and Black Edition trickle in, and the two hardest to put your hands on in the New York metro during the opening months are TrailSport and Black Edition — if either is the one you want, saying so early is what separates driving it this winter from waiting until spring.
Meanwhile the outgoing model year is often the better financial story, because factory support concentrates on what is already on the ground. Current lease programs reset every month, and factory incentives show what is live today.
Will the 2027 Honda Pilot cost more?
Expect a small increase. Honda raises Pilot pricing in modest annual steps, and a carryover year across this segment usually lands somewhere between one and two percent. Applied to the 2026 Sport at roughly $42,000, that is a few hundred dollars rather than a few thousand. Nothing is official, so treat any precise 2027 number circulating right now as arithmetic, not news.
What actually moves a New York payment is where you stop climbing. Sport to Black Edition spans about fifteen thousand dollars, and past the EX-L most of that money buys a panoramic roof, upgraded audio and appearance content rather than seats or capability. Households that need all-wheel drive and eight belts tend to find both at EX-L and stay there.
Your trade is the other lever, and the one people underuse. Three-row SUVs have held value stubbornly well in this market, and a current appraisal frequently covers the walk from Sport to EX-L on its own — we buy cars whether or not you buy one from us.
Every Pilot trim, compared
Six trims, using the 2026 specification that carries into 2027 absent an announcement. MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title, dealer fees and New York registration.
| Trim | Drive | Seats | MPG city / hwy / comb. | Notable equipment | Base MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sport | FWD or AWD | 8 | 19 / 25 / 21 | Cloth seating, 9-inch touchscreen, tri-zone climate, Honda Sensing, remote start | 2026 figure: approx. $42,000 |
| EX-L | FWD or AWD | 8 | 19 / 25 / 21 | Leather-trimmed seats, moonroof, power tailgate, heated front seats, wireless charging | 2026 figure: approx. $45,000 |
| TrailSport | AWD standard | 8 | 18 / 23 / 20 | All-terrain tires, one-inch lift, steel skid plates, TrailWatch camera, unique tuning | 2026 figure: approx. $50,000 |
| Touring | FWD or AWD | 8 | 19 / 25 / 21 | Navigation, 12-speaker audio, hands-free tailgate, second-row sunshades, roof rails | 2026 figure: approx. $50,500 |
| Elite | AWD standard | 7 | 19 / 25 / 21 | Captain's chairs, panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row, Bose audio, head-up display | 2026 figure: approx. $55,000 |
| Black Edition | AWD standard | 7 | 18 / 23 / 20 | Elite content plus blacked-out exterior and wheels, red interior accents, unique badging | 2026 figure: approx. $56,500 |
Pilot trims, fuel economy and base MSRP. All figures are 2026 specifications; Honda has not published 2027 pricing.
Read the seating column twice before you shortlist. Elite and Black Edition carry seven, not eight, because captain's chairs replace the bench — which means the most expensive Pilot is not the roomiest one, and Touring is as far up the range as you can go and still buckle in eight people. The TrailSport is the other asterisk: its all-terrain tires cost roughly a combined mpg, and that is the honest price of the skid plates and the lift.
Engine, efficiency and what the numbers mean in traffic
One drivetrain covers the range: a 3.5-liter V6 near 285 horsepower through a ten-speed automatic. Sport, EX-L and Touring are front-drive with all-wheel drive optional; TrailSport, Elite and Black Edition come with it.
Rated economy sits around 19 city, 25 highway, 21 combined for most builds. City numbers in this market rarely beat the sticker, because cold starts and stop-and-go on the Belt or the Cross Bronx are the opposite of an EPA loop; highway runs east on the Island or north upstate land close to the highway figure. There is no hybrid Pilot, so if fuel cost outranks the third row, the CR-V Hybrid is the real alternative, and the Odyssey is the one to drive if you want maximum room and can live without all-wheel drive.
Seats, cargo and the weekend question
The trick worth knowing before you shop: on bench-equipped Pilots the second-row middle seat lifts out entirely and stows in a well beneath the cargo floor. Eight seats become six plus a walk-through to row three in about a minute, with nothing left behind in a garage to warp in the damp.
Roughly 22 cubic feet sits behind the third row — a double stroller and a full grocery run together — opening to about 87 with both rear rows folded. Towing tops out at 5,000 pounds with all-wheel drive, 3,500 without.
Measured against the Pilot it replaced
Plenty of New Yorkers are still driving the third-generation truck that ran through 2022, so that is the comparison that matters. Horsepower barely moved, 280 to 285, but the nine-speed became a ten-speed that behaves far better at the crawling speeds this city runs on. The roofline straightened, which turned the old sloped third row into one an adult can occupy without negotiating. The middle seat gained the ability to come out and stay out of the way. Driver assistance moved to a wider camera and radar setup, and TrailSport stopped being a badge and started being a specification.
Shopping that older generation instead? Those trucks land in our certified pre-owned inventory.
The recognition, briefly
Cars.com has placed the Pilot at the top of its three-row SUV comparisons, and Kelley Blue Book has listed it among Best Buy picks in the midsize SUV class. Recent Pilot model years have earned IIHS Top Safety Pick status, though those ratings attach to a specific model year and headlight configuration, so verify it on the exact truck you are looking at.
Resale is the recognition that reaches your bank statement: residual values set lease payments, so a truck that holds value quietly leases for less before anyone starts negotiating.
What makes it work here
Footprint first. At under 200 inches the Pilot is a midsize SUV that behaves like one — it fits a standard garage bay, slots into the spaces that open mid-block, and stays on the right side of the size brackets that garages across the boroughs price by. That difference compounds every month.
Traction second. Snow and mud modes plus all-wheel drive make an unplowed side street at six in the morning uneventful, and the ground clearance absorbs the potholes that arrive with every thaw. For a lot of families that single capability is the whole reason a Pilot wins over a minivan.
Then everyday practicality. Eight belts cover the school run, an airport run to LaGuardia or JFK, and a weekend with cousins in the back; the removable middle seat reconfigures the cabin whenever the mix changes. Honda Sensing comes standard, and adaptive cruise takes real strain out of metro stop-and-go, while the multi-angle camera and available sensors handle the rest on a narrow street.
Within the brand, the Passport drops the third row, and the CR-V is the size down for households that never fill row three.
Compare the whole segment on one block
Plaza Honda belongs to Plaza Auto Mall, family-owned on Nostrand Avenue: five new-vehicle brands, a certified pre-owned program behind each, and a multibrand used operation handling makes we do not sell new — over 1,000 vehicles in stock, everything within a seven-minute walk.
That layout compresses a weekend of shopping into an afternoon. Drive the Pilot, then walk to the Kia Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade and the Toyota Grand Highlander. Still weighing a minivan? The Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival are steps away, and Acura of Brooklyn sits on the same block for something more premium.

Frequently asked questions
Has Honda released 2027 Pilot pricing?
No. Nothing official exists as of early September 2026. The 2026 Sport sits near $42,000 before destination, and a carryover year historically adds one to two percent, so plan around that until the order guide publishes.
Is the 2027 Pilot redesigned?
No. The current truck launched for 2023 as a ground-up redesign, and segment reporting places the mid-cycle update closer to 2028. Anticipate package and color adjustments for 2027, not new sheet metal.
Which Pilot trims include all-wheel drive?
TrailSport, Elite and Black Edition come with it. Sport, EX-L and Touring are front-drive with AWD available as an option. In this market the option usually justifies itself the first morning a side street goes unplowed.
Does the Pilot seat seven or eight?
Both, depending on trim. Sport, EX-L, TrailSport and Touring seat eight on a second-row bench; Elite and Black Edition seat seven using captain's chairs. On bench trims the middle seat lifts out and stores under the cargo floor, so you can switch between the two layouts yourself.
What mileage will a Pilot actually return in the city?
Rated at roughly 19 city, 25 highway and 21 combined on most builds, and 18 / 23 / 20 on TrailSport and Black Edition. City figures here tend to match or fall just under the sticker, since cold starts and heavy stop-and-go are harder than the EPA cycle.
Will there be a hybrid Pilot?
Nothing has been announced. The Pilot runs a 3.5-liter V6 with a ten-speed automatic. If fuel cost is the priority and the third row is not, the CR-V Hybrid is the alternative inside the brand.
How much weight can a Pilot pull?
Up to 5,000 pounds with all-wheel drive and 3,500 with front-wheel drive — enough for a small camper, a pair of jet skis or a modest boat. Verify the figure against the exact configuration, since drivetrain and equipment shift it.
Is the TrailSport worth the premium?
It depends on whether you leave pavement. The trim buys all-terrain tires, about an inch of lift, steel skid plates, a TrailWatch camera system and its own suspension tuning. Purely as a city truck the money is better spent elsewhere in the range.
Can I claim a 2027 Pilot before it lands?
Yes. Give us the trim, drivetrain and color and we will match you against the first arriving allocation — no deposit, no obligation. Worth doing early for TrailSport and Black Edition, which move fastest in this market.
I live outside Brooklyn. Does that complicate anything?
Not really. Purchased vehicles deliver free within 25 miles, which reaches all five boroughs plus much of Nassau and southern Westchester. Service pickup and drop-off covers the whole NYC metro area, and our staff works across fifteen-plus languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall?
The family-owned group Plaza Honda is part of, on Nostrand Avenue. Five new-vehicle franchises — Honda, Acura, Toyota, Kia and Hyundai — each with its own certified pre-owned program, all inside a seven-minute walk, with more than 1,000 vehicles in stock between them.
Do you stock used vehicles beyond those five brands?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation carries makes we do not sell new, so a used Explorer, Atlas or Traverse can sit alongside a certified Pilot. The group used inventory shows everything currently available.
